Foothills Midget AA Bisons finally got some home cooking Sunday, October 23rd against the Okotoks Oilers.
Okotoks started quick with two tallies before Quentin Stronski replied for Foothills. Credit Kolton Kostelansky with the assist.
The second frame saw Claresholm's Dawson Lane take charge with a power-play tally. Chalk up Kostelansky with another apple.
Then at 11:20 of the second frame it was Lane again with the marker to put the Bisons up 3-2 to end the second period.
The third frame saw Foothills in the box way too many times. Foothills goalie David Rupp couldn't pull the rabbit out of the hat this time as Okotoks tied the contest with just 12 seconds left in the game.
So what should have been 2 points in the bank, wound up being just a single.
Fast track to Saturday, October 29th where the herd were in Airdrie at the Twin Blue to face the Lightning.
The first frame saw Airdrie start the scoring before Claresholm's Jesse Clay replied. Then Kostelansky gave Foothills the lead with Blayne Gillanders and Nanton's Kaleb Burnett assisting before Airdrie replied.
Make it 2-2 going into the second period.
Foothills then took charge with Claresholm's Quentin Stronski's first of the contest with Kostelansky assisting. Next up was Gillanders with his first of the game on a sweet feed from Kostelansky to put the Bisons up 4-2 going to the third stanza.
The third frame opened with Gillanders scoring a hilite reel goal at 17:31 with Burnett and Stronski drawing assists.
Unfortunately hockey is a sixty minute contest and when Foothills flip the switch to auto-pilot bad things can happen.
Aidrie then scored 3 successive power-play goals and then a go ahead marker with 1:25 left in the game.
Good thing Kostelansky decided the road trip was not going to be in vain, when he found the twine with just 42 seconds on the clock to salvage a tie. Credit Miller and Gillanders with assists.
Again a sure 2 points evaporated.
Hopefully some hard lessons are learned early this season. Bad penalties and big leads can be a fatal concoction.
Check out the herd Saturday, November 5th at 4:30 in Blackie as the current north division leaders, Sylvan Lake, tangle with the Bisons.
