The 2011 Executive have reconvened after a summer hiatus and have met a couple of times to consider the future of the Society.
At this time, the executive represents the three municipal segments of our area, with three members from each of Black Diamond, Turner Valley and the MD of Foothills. Once operational, the facility's management profile would be similar so that all parties would share both in the operation of and access to it.
Discussion has centred on the search for options that might be available and practical in two priority areas. The first is the ongoing search for suitable land within the municipal boundaries and the second, of course, is the search for funding in order to proceed with what the executive still believes to be a much needed multi-purpose facility.
In the light of these discussions, it is proposed at this time that the board will focus on the options outlined above, land and financing, and will delay any meeting of the general membership until there is something concrete to report. Thus the meeting originally planned for October 27th will not be held. In the meantime, the executive will continue to meet on a regular basis.
The board members remain convinced that the original concept, minus of course the Library component, can and should form the basis of our search for land and funds. The ability to host a variety of cultural and recreational activities was uppermost in the minds of the original planners, while the opportunity to attract 'white collar' professional practitioners to our area formed the underpinning to the ongoing financing of the project. This concept meant that there would be no burden on the local taxpayers for the operation of the facility which would be managed by the society itself.
There was a good deal of exploratory discussion with interested individuals and groups during the original planning stages and the board members can find no reason to believe that this has changed. Those groups, those individuals and we as a community need this facility and it is incumbent upon us to work towards its realization.
If you would like to be involved in the ongoing discussions surrounding this project, you can visit us on Facebook or on our website at Centre78.ca. We welcome your positive input and suggestions.
