The 3rd annual Diamond Valley Community Garden BBQ was considered to be a blooming success this year. The BBQ has been held every year to express appreciation to all the volunteers, donors and gardeners that have made the DVCG a huge success. Many thanks go out to the Turner Valley FCSS for the funds for this BBQ.
This year the BBQ was held on a warm, sunny day in August. Many of the attendees, and there were around 90 of them, brought scrumptious salads and deserts made from produce harvested from their own garden plots. The garden was a bountiful display as it was in full season for the vegetables.
With financial donations from fundraising and many, many volunteer hours, this season the garden was expanded to include another 27 raised beds, bringing the total number of raised beds to 69. With volunteers, the wonderful chain link fence that keeps the deer out was also extended around the whole garden area. Heartfelt thanks and appreciation go out to all the volunteers and donators, who have made this project a reality.
A special thank you goes out to Shelagh Dobbyn who co-ordinated this project and by sheer force of will has made it happen. Another tireless volunteer this year and last is Andy Melnyk. All the gardeners thank you very much for your energy in making a wonderful family garden plot for all to enjoy. It's another great bonus for the Diamond Valley area.
As always, a big thank you also goes out to the Town of Black Diamond, the Black Diamond FCSS and the Lions Club for their ongoing support.
Cheers, and see you next year in the garden.
