Legion Leanings - Student Bursaries Honour Veterans

Awarding our youth and honouring our veterans.

At the first General Meeting of the year, members passed a resolution to make two further Bursaries available to students in the area served by our Branch. These will address the gap in our new programme which remained when the six previously announced awards were made available to students at our three High Schools – two for each of Oilfields' High School, Okotoks High School and Holy Trinity Academy.
The two additional awards will be for students who live in our area but who attend other publicly funded Secondary Schools. Those who live in Bragg Creek or DeWinton etc now have access to the bursaries provided for descendants of former or current servicemen.
Annual dues are still coming in to the Branch, but all members are urged to renew as soon as is possible. There is no change in dues with $50 for regular members and $40 for seniors over 65. For those who are not members, remember that most of our activities and meals are available to you merely by signing in to the Branch. Membership in one category or another is also open to all who support the objectives of the Legion.
The entertainment committee has presented a calendar of events and is looking for suggestions by members for the kinds of entertainment or activities that they would like to see or participate in. What would entice you to the Branch on a Friday or Saturday evening? Are you interested in the sports programme? Why do we see you only occasionally or not at all? Please give us some feedback. A branch is only as strong as its membership. Drop us a line at rcl78@telus.net
Upcoming events include an afternoon Jelly Bean dance for the kids in February, while the adults will have their Valentines' Dance. Details are available at the Branch. Meanwhile, the seniors' Dinner was held on January 30th.
Members should note that the Branch will be closed on Friday and Saturday, February 17th/18th for the Family Day Weekend.
Looking ahead to Canada Day, a two-day programme is planned which is meant to bring together Veterans, their families and others to help celebrate this great country of ours. We hope for a display of those who have served in its Armed Forces, living or deceased. Bring pictures, medals, uniforms and souvenirs from any era and show your pride in their accomplishments. We want to honour their service in a public way. Your precious memories will be well looked after.

Serving Veterans, Seniors, Youth and the Community.

Come to a Fabulous Fashion Show

St. George’s Anglican Church - Family Fun Sale

Time to swap out those old games and DVDs and books for something "new-to-you".

As our daily outdoor activities keep us busier and busier it's often difficult to find the time to spend some quality family time together. Now that winter is settling in for a few months, it may be the perfect time to think of family activities that can be done in the warmth of your own home. Why not sit the family down together around the dining room table with some hot chocolate and play a board game or do a puzzle? How special it would be to cuddle up together under a warm blanket and watch your favourite DVD.
St. George's Church encourages you to make time to spend with your family and is having a Family Fun Sale just to help you do that. February 11th, 10am to 4pm at our church in Turner Valley, we will have all sorts of books, games, puzzles and DVDs for sale so you can enjoy your together-time. For those who would like to donate your gently used books, games, puzzles or DVDs to our sale, we will gratefully accept them on February 8th, 2 to 4pm and February 9th, 7 to 9pm. Enjoy your time together and have fun!!
