Turner Valley School News

Principal's Message
As we enter the Christmas season, Turner Valley School continues to be a very busy place. Decorations are up, lights are lit and excitement is building in anticipation of the celebration to come. A number of activities are planned for the school community and the community at large. We invite all members of our community to join in the celebrations of the Christmas season, especially our concert “The Best Gift Ever” December 21st at 7:00pm.
The first reporting period has just been completed and report cards went home December 2nd. By all indications the students of Turner Valley School are progressing very well. While the formal student-led conferences were completed in late October, we want to remind you that parents are welcome to contact the school at any time to discuss their child's progress. Also be on the lookout for access codes to our web-based learner profile that will allow you to monitor your child's progress on line and enhance student learning and communication.
The staff at Turner Valley School has been involved in a number of professional development activities that support our goals of improving academic excellence. “The Work” as we call it, in the areas of classroom assessment, reading improvement, math and student engagement that will help us in our mission to go from a “GOOD” school to a “GREAT” school.
We have updated our school's three year Education Plan. To better understand how we are doing and what our improvement priorities are, parents are invited to view this document on our website: -

We look forward to seeing everyone at our Christmas celebration on December 21st at 7:00pm at Turner Valley School. It is my wish, on behalf of the staff, that everyone has a safe, happy and peaceful Christmas season.
Education together,
Rob Bennington
Winter Safety Tips for December
Snowboarding, skiing, skating and sledding are among our favourite winter activities. All of these activities can have a high-risk of injury. Most of these injuries are preventable – winter activities can be fun and injury free.
Follow these tips:
Look First
Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas
Check the surface of the area to see any visible hazards
Plan activities that have warm shelters and a phone nearby
Wear the Gear
This includes sport specific equipment, with proper sizing and equipment in good repair
Always keep your head protected with a helmet for skiing, sledding, snowboarding and skating
Wear several layers, keeping your head, ears, face and hands covered to prevent frostbite
Get Trained
Take lessons from a certified instructor
Always use the buddy system
Know your limits. Rest if you are tired. Go inside if you are cold. Remember to use sunscreen even on a cloudy day.
