École Percy Pegler School Grand Re-Opening

École Percy Pegler School's gym was temporarily transformed into a hip hop concert venue as students, parents, staff and special guests alike rapped along with local indie artist, Transit, at the school's November 18th Grand Re-Opening celebration.
Following a $6.9 million modernization project, the school community was excited to formally open the doors of their fully-renovated building.
Transit has been a special friend to the school since collaborating with a Grade 3/4 class last year on a music video about the Mavericks of Alberta, set to the tune of his hit song, Calgary: We Are Not All Cowboys, featuring popular Canadian recording artist Jann Arden singing the bridge and cameos by several local artists and personalities.
After addressing the students with a motivational speech about how they can make a difference, Transit had the entire crowd on their feet as he performed two songs including Calgary.
Other special guests included Kathy Coutts, granddaughter of Percy Pegler whom the school is named for, Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson, Reeve Larry Spilak of the M.D. of Foothills, Randy Clarke, Alberta Education's Director, Zone 5 Services and Foothills School Division's Board Chair Diana Froc and Denise Rose, Superintendent of Schools.
“It was an amazing day,” said school Principal Dinah Shortt. “Going through a modernization project is challenging for everyone concerned – students, staff and school families – so it was great to have the opportunity to publicly thank everyone for their support and celebrate our wonderful new school together.”
The formal program in the gym, which opened with a heart-warming video montage of students and staff, was preceded by a luncheon for staff and special guests organized by a group of wonderful parent volunteers.
