On August 16th the Sheep River Health Trust celebrated the newly renovated kitchen in the Rising Sun Long Term Care Unit in the Oilfields General Hospital.
Thanks to generous donations from the Poffenroth Family and contributors to the Rural Roots Continue to Care Campaign the original kitchen in the Rising Sun Long Term Care Unit underwent a dramatic transformation this summer. The Rural Roots Campaign was initiated to raise funds for the renovation of the kitchen and for the purchase of a new Fun Bus. The refurbishment of the kitchen allows residents to participate in cooking and baking sessions in addition to providing a safe and more accessible space.
The Rising Sun Long Term Care Unit has been operating since 1985 and supports members of the community who are now residents at the hospital.  There are currently thirty residents who are provided with 24-hour care, including nursing and support staff, as well as recreation therapists. Donations through the Sheep River Health Trust support various programs, services and equipment purchases which enhance residents' quality of life, such as the kitchen renovation.
Established in 1994, the Sheep River Health Trust is a registered charitable organization that raises funds to support health services and wellness programs for the residents of Black Diamond, DeWinton, Longview, Millarville, Okotoks, Priddis, Turner Valley and the surrounding rural areas.
