Gary Fjellgaard Appearing In Black Diamond

For more than forty years Gary Fjellgaard has been making a living on the road with a guitar and a song. He delights his audiences throughout North America and Europe with his masterful acoustic guitar, gentle vocals, riveting yodeling and tales of his life in the woods. Gary takes his music to the people with a rare sincerity.
Raised on the Canadian Prairies, this award winning singer/songwriter is a champion of vanishing values and the frontier spirit. Cattle drives, wagon treks, windswept prairies, rushing rivers and working folks with ties to the land have all been a source of inspiration for his songs.
Area residents will have the opportunity to enjoy Gary's music on October 16th at a three o'clock performance at the Griffiths Senior Centre on Government Road in Black Diamond. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at Marv’s Classic Soda Shop or Blue Rock Gallery in Black Diamond, Coyote Moon in Turner Valley or by calling Andy at 403-933-2167.
The concert is being put on as a social event for all residents wishing to experience entertainment by well-known musicians and entertainers. It is also a fund-raiser for the Centre to help cover operating expenses. Home-made pie (by the volunteers) and coffee will also be served during intermission - cost is by donation.
The Griffiths Senior Centre has been an integral part of this community since the 1950s when the Griffith family donated the land and buildings to the senior citizens of this area.
Having undergone recent renovations the centre is available for bookings for such functions as parties (i.e. weddings, Christmas dinners and other functions), meetings, seminars, etc. It can seat up to 100 and has a full kitchen available including dishes, cutlery, tables, etc.
The Griffith Centre is primarily used by seniors in the community as a drop-in centre for such activities as floor curling, quilting, exercise classes, playing cards and more, all provided by the volunteers of the Centre.
The Centre is totally run by volunteers and an Executive consisting of a President, Vice-President, two Directors, Secretary and Treasurer. The membership consists of approximately 85 seniors and an annual membership fee of $15 applies to all members. Extra fees apply for floor curling and quilting. Other funds are raised through such means as donations, casinos, grants.
Anyone wishing a larger venue that includes the use of kitchen facilities can call 403-933-4036 for more information.
