Small Business Week events designed to inspire and motivate local businesses

The High River Business and Tourism Development Office will pay tribute to the
contributions small and medium-sized businesses make to the local economy during Small Business Week 2011, October 17 – 21. Events scheduled throughout the week are intended to inspire, motivate and teach local businesses and entrepreneurs how to:

 create better, more harmonious workplaces,
 understand the power of partnering, packages and programming and
 incorporate basic online marketing strategies into their business practices.

The week kicks-off in high energy style with a Monday morning motivational breakfast featuring
internationally renowned speaker Kevin Burns. He will be sharing easy strategies for building a
better workplace in ten seconds or less. “This is an opportunity for local business owners to learn
how to enhance their processes for a more successful business,” said Marilyn MacArthur, business and tourism development manager.

It is being held at the Highwood Golf and Country Club, October 17 from 8a.m. to noon. Tickets are $25 each, and are available at the Business and Tourism Development office (102,120-4th Avenue SW) and the Town Office (309B MacLeod Trail SW). Registration must be confirmed by Friday, October 14.

Small Business Week continues with a free workshop on Partnering, Packaging and Programming, on October 19 from 8:30-11:30a.m. Presented by Lisa Lima of Travel Alberta, this workshop will demonstrate the value of partnering with other organizations, how to build more effective packages and how to design programming to create fabulous experiences that will expand the customer base and increase sales.

A second free workshop will be held October 21 from 8:30-10:30a.m. focusing on Online Marketing, Lisa Lima will provide participants with a better understanding of online marketing, including the importance of sustaining an up-to-date website that appeals to potential customers, ensuring a company’s visibility on internet search engines and accessing the variety of promotional opportunities available to organizations through the internet.

These free Travel Alberta workshops will be held in Room M02/03 at the town office and advance registration is required. Seats can be reserved by calling the Business and Tourism Development Office 403.652.8622.
