Faith Forum: Truth by Gloria Wessner

Gloria takes us through the Bible to find the truth about God.

When a certain phone call is received telling a person you've won a free cruise or one gets an email stating you're a winner in the UK lottery – if you're like me, you're skeptical because you know it's always a scam. You pretty much know without even looking that it's not for real.
The general tone 'out there' about God that the public in general and most media people use that guides their thoughts and actions is that God isn't real (God hasn't been proven by science, so it is unnecessary to have belief in Him, is the thinking) as said by various mainstream thoughts. If you do believe and have a faith in God, you must be overly trusting and naïve or simplistic. This premise of thinking that permeates society hardly encourages one to seek God or the truth about Him.
Here are some thoughts on truth from God's perspective:
The Word (Jesus) became flesh (human) and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14, NIV, parenthesis mine)
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
(John 1:17 NIV)
(Jesus said) Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32 NIV, parenthesis mine)
As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me
(Jesus), a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God... (John 8:40a NIV, parenthesis mine)
Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? (John 8:45,46 NIV, Jesus speaking)
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 NIV)
Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. (John 17:17 NLT)
“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, I find no basis for a charge against him.
(John 18:37,38 NIV)
“For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed. (Romans 15:8 NIV, Patriarchs were Jewish heads of family tribes in their early history)
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, (Ephesians 1:13 NIV)
…when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
(Ephesians 4:21 NIV)
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. (1 Timothy 2:3-6a NIV)
He chose to give us birth through the word (God's Word) of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. (James 1:18 NIV, parenthesis mine)
It can be seen from all of these quotes from God's word that truth is something that He is, and we can believe what He says.
If you have the slightest tug in your heart that you want to know more about God or know Him personally, I would encourage you to not give in to the general thinking of the day, but to seek for yourself the possibilities that God is real and that He genuinely seeks to have a relationship with you, too.
One excellent in depth book on this subject (and where these thoughts above and so much more are explored thoroughly) is: “GODQUEST Discover the God Your Heart is Searching For” by Sean McDowell and Stan Jantz – just newly released.
