Home For The Holidays Campaign Extremely Successful

The Town of High River's annual Christmas shopping contest shows how many shop at home. Check out this year's winner!

With almost 750 entries for the daily and grand prize draws, the 2011 Home for the Holidays campaign, sponsored by Business and Tourism Development (BTD), has been a smash hit with residents and businesses.
“This represents more than $61,000 spent in local businesses during the Christmas season,” said Dayna Dickens, coordinator for BTD. Entries for the contest, which ran from November 15th to December 20th, needed to include a minimum of $20 in receipts from local businesses to be eligible.
The grand prize drawn on December 21st was won by Alison Laycraft of High River. It featured a “Winter of Activities and Entertainment in High River” package valued at more than $950. Four-month family swim and skate passes, gift certificates to a number of different restaurants, live theatre and concert tickets, as well as movie passes and even babysitting services were included.
“The grand prize reflects the diversity and richness of the cultural opportunities and recreational activities available in our community,” said Dickens. “There's something for everyone, from families and couples to single individuals, that will keep them busy throughout the winter months.”
As well as the grand prize there were 11 daily draws for gift certificates to High River stores and restaurants worth more than $1,500.
Manager of Business and Tourism Development Marilyn MacArthur said, “We hope this campaign has helped to spread the word that there's great shopping in High River, not to mention a winter-time's worth of events and activities happening here in our community.”
