Lions Den ~ Everybody's Got to Serve Somebody

The Foothills Lions are serving their communities with enthusiasm!

Submitted by Lion James Lee

Bob Dylan sang this sentiment in a song a few years ago. The brilliant Albert Schweitzer once said “I don't know what your destiny is going to be, but ONE thing I do know is that those who are successful have sought, and found how to serve.” Every year at this time, Lion's worldwide renew the pledge to serve. We, as Lion's, highlight our dedication and willingness to serve our community and the good causes that are evident in our community. To serve, becomes a Beacon of Hope for a host of people, ideas, programs and community initiatives. So in having said all of this, we as Lion's are ready to rock for the upcoming year.
Our latest and largest project in recent years is the proposed “Lions Family Spray Park”. This conceptual family park would be located directly behind Landers Memorial Pool. The Park will be composed of a 3,000 sq/ft waterpark, playground area and a green space, replete with benches, picnic tables and shaded areas for family get-togethers. You can help Foothills Lions make the Lions Family Spray Park a reality by volunteering or participating in our First Annual “Lions Community Bonspiel” to be held March 9th, 10th and 11th at the Oilfields Curling Club in Black Diamond. This is a fun but competitive Open Mixed Bonspiel. Cost is $300.00 per team, includes Saturday Night Dinner, Live Music and Team Prizes. Interested teams or individuals can contact Barry Crane at 403-933-5385 or Mike Libbus at the Oilfields Curling Club at 403-933-7324.
So what have Foothills Lions done to serve their community lately?… well….donated $5,000.00 to the Oilfields High School Drama Department for new stage lights, props and backdrop; purchased 12 beds and bedding for destitute Indonesians; donated $600.00 to the local Food Bank; helped fund the Legion Kids Christmas Party; supported the Diamond Valley Boys and Girls Club to the tune of $2,500.00 to off-set escalating food costs for their after school program and donated $500.00 to the Easter Seals Camp Horizon in Kananaskis.
Interested in becoming a Lion? Call our Membership Co-ordinator, Don Ward at (403)931-3587. Next Bingo's at the Valley Neighbours Club are February 20th and March 3rd starting at 7pm.
